Children’s Oncology Group - Finance & Administration Assistant
Position Summary:
The Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a National Cancer Institute supported clinical trials group, is the world’s largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research. The COG unites more than 10,000 experts in childhood cancer at more than 200 leading children’s hospitals, universities, and cancer centers across North America, Australia, and New Zealand in the fight against childhood cancer. Our goal is to cure all children and adolescents with cancer, reduce the short- and long-term complications of cancer treatments, and determine the causes and find ways to prevent childhood cancer.
COG is seeking a proactive, thoughtful, and analytical hands-on finance and administrative professional for the position of Finance & Administration Assistant. This newly created role requires a highly motivated individual to make a positive impact in a continually evolving, fast-paced environment. The Finance & Administration Assistant will have the unique opportunity to be an integral part of a growing organization that has a global impact. The person selected for this role will leverage existing resources while helping to create, implement and routinely refine processes and procedures. This role reports directly to the Operations Manager and will be employed by The Children's Oncology Group Foundation on behalf of COG.
The Finance & Administration Assistant will be responsible for assisting with accounting and financial operations, financial reporting, and contract administration activities of our nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, as well as provide support to our rapidly expanding affiliated research entity. This includes a blend of financial and administrative activities that involve interactions with stakeholders in the research and philanthropic communities. The Finance & Administration Assistant position will be part of a growing team that will ensure accurate and timely program monitoring and annual audits while offering regular financial reports to executive leadership.
The role involves coordination with internal and external teams, including but not limited to the Professional Employer Organization (PEO) for payroll services, COG member research institutions, and multiple COG operating offices to ensure compliance with guidelines, terms and conditions set forth by a variety of funding sources which may include philanthropic, federal or industry funding.

remote employer, though some travel may be required. Employee must reside within the United States.
Full pay range for this position: $27.57 to $39.31 per hour. The typical hiring range for this position is from $27.57 (minimum) to $33.44 (midpoint) per hour. The starting wage is determined based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Process accounting and financial transactions to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash reconciliations and general ledger transactions.
- Process invoices, reconcile vendor statements, prepare payments, and contribute to vendor relationship management.
- Record donation and grant receipts in the accounting system, and process gift receipts to donors.
- Prepare and generate regular and ad-hoc financial reports.
- Assist with contracting processes with member research institutions and external partners, vendors, and consultants.
- Assist with development and maintenance of internally developed processes and standard operating procedures.
- Adherence to financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Communicate with staff members via email, phone, and video conferences on a regular basis.
- Ability to travel to business meetings as requested, which may include overnight travel.
- Provide support with general business and administrative needs.
- Team coverage as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of related work experience in finance, accounting, or administrative functions.
- Associate degree, or substitute with two additional years of relevant work experience.
Other Qualifications
- More than 3 years of experience in finance, accounting or administrative functions preferred.
- General knowledge of nonprofit fiscal management.
- Demonstrated experience with accounting and financial systems.
- Exposure to project management tools such as Monday.com and Smartsheet preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/Google Suite applications with specific demonstrated experience in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or similar software.
- Ability to be self-directed, as well as a drive towards collaboration, innovation, and pursuit of creative solutions that advance the mission and impact of the organization.
- Ability to meet deadlines, strong attention to details, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Comfortable being a part of change in a fast-paced environment.
- Possess a strategic mindset and the ability to think critically about business challenges with an eye towards problem solving and decision making.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
